All continuing services and technical consultations will be taken over by JEZ Consult which have been active since 5th May 2016. Both of the companies have been working side by side since then.

Disabling the Windows 10 Upgrade Notification

The Windows 10 upgrade reservation notification icon will not show up for those Windows 7 and 8 version for a number of reasons. Those include:

• The device is not running at least Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update
• Windows Update is turned off or is not set to receive updates automatically.
• Windows Update functionality is blocked or uninstalled.
• The device is not running genuine Windows.
• The device is part of Enterprise license (SKU)
• The device is domain-joined.
• The device is MDM-managed.

Please take note, if you have "accidentally" upgraded your device to the new Windows 10, you are given a one (1) month period to revert and restore back to your previous Operating System. If used more than a month, you will not be able to restore back to your previous Windows. Nor if you have deleted an old windows folder prior to your upgrade to Windows 10.

There is a way to block the icon from showing and disable notifications of upgrading to Windows 10. This is especially useful to avoid users from their "itchy" fingers to click it. This is done using the Windows registry editor, do this:

1. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx
2. Create a new REG_DWORD registry value called: DisableGwx
3. Give it a value of: 1

*If in case there is no Gwx folder, just create a new KEY and give it that name. 

How can I tell what version of Windows is installed on a hard drive without booting it?

1. you can open the file ../Windows/System32/license.rtf with Word pad. Guess what, it tells you EXACTLY what system is installed. On that same drive above, this file said "WINDOWS 8 PRO"
2. Look in the ../Windows/System32 folder for a file called "ntoskrnl.exe". If this file exists, it is at least an NT based system. (I assume you are not looking for Win95 or earlier.)
   
   Now do a properties and examine the details for a product version.
   
   4.x: NT 4.x
   5.0: Windows 2000
   5.1: Windows XP
   5.2: Windows 2003 Server or Windows XP-64-bit
   6.0: Windows Vista
   6.1: Windows 7
   6.2; Windows 8
   6.3: Windows 8.1
   
   This does not however  tell you which flavor of those systems (Pro, Home, etc).
3. Look at the following file(s) on the hard drive ../windows/system32/eula.txt

Unhide Administrator Profile for Windows XP or Windows 7

Some computers running under Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows 7, their main Administrator Profile is hidden. You can unhide these profile by doing this steps.


1. Run Regedit
2. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\Userlist
3. Right-click in the work area and create a new DWORD entry.
4. Name it as Administrator and change it's value to 1 (show/unhide) or 0 (to hide it).
5. Exit the registry editor and reboot the PC



That's it. When you reboot/restart your PC, you should be able to see the Administrator Profile Icon on the startup screen.
